About Us

Assets Under Movement connects capital to organizations, leaders and innovators advancing social change.

Job Overview

The Vice President of Enterprise Strategy and External Affairs (VP) will support the development and execution of AUM+’s External Affairs division, strengthening how AUM+ connects its strategy, external relationships, growth, communications, and emerging opportunities in service of the organization’s mission and impact.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer/EVP of External Affairs (CSO), the VP will serve as a senior strategist and builder-leader with expertise across external affairs, strategic communications, public affairs and advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management.   The VP must bring demonstrated experience building long-term strategic roadmaps while simultaneously advancing near-term, minimum viable priorities and leading a continually evolving organization. This builder-stage approach will serve two purposes: delivering against current priorities and generating learning needed to make informed decisions about the long-term ownership, capacity and resourcing of emerging capabilities.

The VP will help translate the Chief Strategy Officer’s vision for External Affairs and Strategy into clear priorities and a phased work plan with measurable outcomes, clear deliverables, and timelines, In addition to recommendations regarding external capabilities, resources, and structure. The VP will also play an important supporting role in AUM+’s cross-functional strategic planning process.

This is intentionally a build-stage role. The VP will execute against AUM+’s defined minimum-viable priorities while assessing needs, testing approaches, and using what AUM+ learns to shape the roadmap for future work and capacity. This role requires exceptional judgement and ability to assess external priorities, identify emerging trends and stakeholder dynamics, with the ability to develop clear and concise recommendations for the leadership team, including what should be built internally, supported externally, or owned elsewhere over time. The enduring portfolio will evolve as the strategy and External Affairs model take shape. This role is being hired while AUM+ is actively shaping both its enterprise strategy and External Affairs model. The precise team structure, staffing, external resources, and areas of delegated authority will therefore develop alongside that work rather than being fully predetermined at the time of hire.

This is a Vice President-level role with meaningful responsibility and latitude. The VP will be expected to lead defined bodies of work, make recommendations to senior leadership, represent AUM+ in delegated external settings, and manage projects and external resources within agreed parameters. The VP will work particularly closely with the Chief Strategy Officer/EVP of External Affairs and will collaborate extensively with the CEO, EVP of Internal Affairs/COO, the VP for Growth & Impact, and other leaders across AUM+.

In the first phase, success will center on two interconnected priorities: strengthening AUM+’s enterprise strategy capability and helping build the External Affairs division required to advance that strategy in the following ways

  • Ensuring the Chief Strategy Officer has a senior strategic thought and action partner to execute on vision, build a clear roadmap with phased priorities, work plans, and resource recommendations.

  • The External Affairs division has a clear strategic purpose, near-term agenda, operating model, and roadmap for assessing, testing, and building the capabilities it will need over time.

  • Complex opportunities reach decision-makers with a clear understanding of their mission value, potential impact, organizational implications, and recommended path forward.

  • Support the CSO with the development of an integrated External Affairs approach that connects external relationships, strategic partnerships, narrative, visibility, growth priorities, and emerging initiatives so they increasingly reinforce one another and advance the mission.

  • Support the CSO with the assessment of AUM+’s strategic communications and public affairs needs, established a minimum-viable approach, and developed a roadmap for testing and scaling the right mix of internal and external support.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

           Build enterprise strategy and capability:

  • Serve as a senior thought partner to the CSO to develop and execute an  enterprise strategy aligned with AUM+’s mission, organizational priorities, and growth. Translate the enterprise vision and strategy into clear strategic choices, priorities, and recommendations.

  • Support the incubation of selected strategic initiatives by establishing the initial strategy, governance, partnerships, resources, and leadership capacity required to move from concept toward implementation.

Connect strategy and execution across the enterprise:

  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President of Internal Affairs, as well as operational and functional leaders early enough that capacity, infrastructure, resources, governance, and risk considerations inform strategic choices regarding AUM+’s multi-entity structure and external engagement strategies.

  • Translate and develop approved direction into clear priorities, outcomes, guardrails, decision points, and execution handoffs, while respecting the accountability of operational and functional leaders.

  • Identify and communicate implementation barriers, material new evidence, and unresolved strategic choices to the appropriate decision makers  to clarify and ensure appropriate ownership and execution.
